Dr. Sandez’s Story
Even at a young age, I had a passion for health and wellness, especially exercise, nutrition and everything natural. I played numerous sports in recreational leagues and for various school teams. Although I was always very active, at the age of 17, I took it upon myself to begin a healthier lifestyle by weight lifting regularly, eating better and adding supplementation to my daily routine. By the age of 22, I graduated from college and followed my passion for health & fitness by becoming an American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer. I was a certified trainer for 4 years, leading numerous clients to improve muscle tone and strength, lose weight, increase flexibility and ultimately reach their fitness goals.
Although I was doing what I loved, I knew I wanted more. I researched different health fields such as exercise physiology, physical therapy, chiropractic and even considered medical school. The philosophy, art and science of chiropractic made the most sense to me. As I learned about the importance of a healthy spine and nervous system, I decided to personally begin chiropractic care without having any pain or symptoms. As “healthy” as I thought I was, I quickly learned I had misalignments in the spine, faulty posture and unbalanced muscles, that if not addressed, could lead to early degeneration, sickness and disease later in life. While receiving chiropractic care, I felt amazing. I experienced decreased tension and stress, increased range of motion, better balance and improved posture. One thing that surprised me; I was not getting colds as easily as before. I then realized why spinal hygiene was so important. I learned how chiropractic is just as much about prevention as it is about caring for sick people. This made me wonder why other doctors had never told me about all these benefits.
This new knowledge and personal experience further encouraged my desire to share chiropractic with the world. I wanted to make a significant difference in people’s lives and nothing made more sense or felt more natural than being a chiropractor. I wanted more people to know about the benefits, not only those with pain or other symptoms, but anyone who wanted to maintain their health and prevent disease.
Months later, I quit my personal training career to pursue a Doctorate in Chiropractic. I moved to Marietta, GA to attend one of America’s premier chiropractic schools, Life University. After 4 years of demanding schoolwork and training I graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors, was among the top of my class in clinical performance for patient care and was accepted into the International Chiropractic Honor Society. I worked in a busy family practice in Georgia for 6 months before moving back to North Carolina. Today, I am the doctor and owner of Sandez Family Chiropractic & Wellness Center.
To this day, I get regular chiropractic adjustments to maintain optimum spinal hygiene, exercise weekly, eat well, take nutritional supplements daily and lead a healthy-active lifestyle. I firmly believe any leader, doctor, mentor, or coach must practice what they preach. I live and lead by example every day!
